Item Enhancing innovation through learning organisation among the multinationals in Malaysia : mediating role of self efficacy(2020-11) Sethumadavan, Sharmila K. N.; Hassan, Zubair; Basit, AbdulThe aim of this research is to examine the impact of learning organization on innovation, mediated by the self-efficacy among Multinationals in Malaysia. This study builds on the conceptual framework and further analyses the important factors of learning organization in predicting individual innovation and self-efficacy through critical evaluation of associated theoretical models, literature study and empirical testing. Due to the respondents' proximity, availability and accessibility, this study has used non-probability convenience sampling technique. Data was collected using a Likert-Scale (1-5) questionnaire from 308 who were employed at Multinationals. The reliability and validity of the item construct was tested. A structural equation modelling was carried out to analyse the data via AMOSE 22. The findings indicated that learning organization has a positive significant influence on innovation and self-efficacy. However, the result showed that self-efficacy has no significant effect on innovation. The result showed that the mediating effect of self-efficacy on the relationship between learning organization and innovation was not significant. The overall conclusion is that innovation can be cultivated and enhanced through learning organisation. The theoretical contribution of this research is that learning organisation and self-efficacy are two key determinants of innovation. Practically, this research findings can be used to design training and development programs to enhance learning organisational culture among the employees which in turn engage themselves in innovative behaviour. Managers can also use this research findings to identify and deciding to allocate resource to enhance innovation through most critical aspects of learning organisation than all aspects.Item Impacts of spiritual and cultural intelligence on leadership effectiveness : a conceptual analysis(2018-08-03) Osman-Gani, Ahad M. ; Hassan, ZubairThe purpose of this paper is to examine the impacts of Spiritual and Cultural Intelligence on Leadership effectiveness in global environment using the available current literature. Through the review of past work, the most dominant concept of cultural intelligence was introduced by Ang et al. (2007) where four dimensions of cultural intelligence were proposed (metacognitive intelligence, cognitive intelligence, motivational intelligence, and behavioural intelligence). In terms of spiritual intelligence, Zohar and Marshall (2005) and Reeve (2005) work could be a very useful and gain much attention in the field. Both framework to measure cultural intelligence and spiritual intelligence were empirically examined in relations with leadership effectiveness. A mixed result was reported. However it is important to note that majority of the study indicated that Cultural intelligence and Spiritual Intelligence have positive and significant impact on global leadership effectiveness in terms of decision making, performance, and commitment. Therefore this paper is proposed to collect data using three instruments: Ang et al. (2007)'s four cultural intelligence dimensions and the measurement tool will be used to measure cultural intelligence. To measure Spiritual Intelligence, Zohar and Marshall (2005)'s measurement tools will be used and to measure leadership effectiveness, Kouzes and Posner (1995). This study will be useful for individual managers and organisation in developing global mind-set and effectiveness of their managers in global environment and working with diverse work groups.Item The impact of good governance of foreign direct investment inflows : a study on the South Asia region(2018) Nizam, Ismail; Hassan, ZubairThe purpose of this study is to establish the impact of good governance on the inflow of foreign direct investment (FDI) among South Asian region countries. This study is conducted using secondary research where the data for World Governance Indicators (WGI) and FDI were collect from World Bank’s online database. The independent variables used for the study are Control of Corruption (CC), Government Effectiveness (GE), Political stability and absence of violence (PV), Regulatory Quality (RQ), Rule of Law (RL) and Voice and Accountability (VA), while the dependent variable used for the study is FDI. A sample of 8 member countries of SAARC was selected as a sample with 109 observations. This study used descriptive research design, and data was collected for 14 years (2002-2015). The data was checked for normality, suitability and validity through the SPSS 21. The overall result of the study shows the two factors; namely, Voice and Accountability (VA) and Government Effectiveness (GE) have significant impact on the FDI inflow in the South Asian region. The other four variables, Control of Corruption (CC), Political stability and absence of violence (PV), Regulatory Quality (RQ), and Rule of Law (RL) have a negative impact on FDI inflow indicating that these factors do not influence the attraction of FDI inflow. Therefore we concluded that improved good governance of Voice and Accountability (VA) and Government Effectiveness (GE) will increase FDI inflows.Item The influence of transformational leadership in creating a learning organisation(2015-04) Teng, Wong Pui; Hassan, ZubairThis study seeks to establish the influence of transformational leadership behaviour on learning organisation. For this purpose Avilio and Bass (2000) transformational leadership questionnaire is adopted and Peter Senge’s learning organisation dimensional questionnaire is used. The independent variables to measure transformational leadership include; Idealised behaviour, idealized attributes, inspirational motivation, intellectual stimulation and individual consideration. The dependent variable used to measure learning organisation includes mental models, personal mastery, shared vision, team learning and system thinking. The study adopted descriptive and explanatory research design. Also this study used a cross sectional survey methods using a survey questionnaires containing 56 items with Likert Scale (Disagree-1 and 5 for Agree). The sample of 100 employees from Amway in Kuala Lumpur were selected using simple probability sampling. The collected data was analysed using descriptive means and regression via SPSS. 21. This study found that most of the transformational leadership behaviour is significant and positively influences learning organisation except System Thinking of learning organisation. Though this study included only two organisations, future studies may include larger sample size by conducting the research on more private sector organisation, particular only one sector. The future studies may compare differences based on sociodemographic profile and might examine the similarities of national culture in relation with Malaysia.Item The influences of organizational culture on performance management(2015) Ponnu, Alicia Lorraine Dorai; Hassan, ZubairThis study investigates the influence of organizational culture on performance management in insurance industry. Based on the work of Goffee, Jones, O’Reilly, Chatman and Caldwell a structured questionnaire was developed and distributed and data are collected from 100 employees at Zurich Insurance Malaysia using convenience sampling techniques. This study used five variables to measure organizational culture: adaptive perspective, communal, network, mercenary and fragmented culture. The results showed that there is an association or relationship between organizational cultures on performance management. The findings also showed that different types of organizational culture have different levels of acceptance of performance management. This means that certain type of organizational culture is acceptable and instills to improve performance. The results show that there is a significant and positives correlation between organizational cultures and performance management. Future studies may consider more insurance based organization to generalize the finding throughout the insurance industry. Also this study can be conducted on other sectors as well with some modification on the variable use to measure organizational culture.
